DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Gerard Valenti-Rojas (Atom Computing).\n\nA
bstract: \nThe accumulation of errors in quantum computers limits the
execution of powerful algorithms. As a result\, current devices require
Quantum Error Correction (QEC) to operate reliably in the presence of noi
se — a paradigm known as Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computation (FTQC).In thi
s talk\, I will introduce the principles of QEC\, explain why it is essen
tial\, and illustrate how it can be implemented in practice on a neutral-
atom quantum computing platform. This is meant to give the audience an in
tuitive sense of what it means to run a fault-tolerant quantum algorithm
on real hardware. If time permits\, I will discuss some promising quantum
low-density parity-check (qLDPC) code constructions and the new opportun
ities they may offer for scalable fault tolerance.By the end of the talk\
, participants should be familiar with key concepts such as encoding circ
uits\, logical gate implementation\, syndrome extraction\, as well as the
practical challenges involved in realising these techniques experimental
ly.
