DESCRIPTION:“Unearthed”: Where Science Becomes Sound\n\nCan approx.
4.5 billion years of Earth's deep history be transformed into acoustic m
usic? Composer Signe Lykke has created a new piece for string quartet. Dr
awing on Earth System Science\, the work translates the planet’s intertwi
ned biological\, chemical\, and geological processes into music as part o
f her three year residency with Bloom festival in Copenhagen.\nThe reside
ncy brings contemporary classical music into dialogue with natural scienc
e\, exploring the phenomenon of memory through three scientific perspecti
ves: hologenomics\, geoscience\, and astrophysics.\nOver the course of th
e residency\, Lykke is creating three new works that explore scale across
 duration\, instrumentation\, and scientific framework.\nThe residency fo
sters a close knit co-creative process working with scientists from diffe
rent fields. In conversation with these specialists the pieces slowly gro
w informed by data\, specific evolutionary parameters\, archival findings
\, the behavior of microorganisms\, graphics ect.\nLensed through music t
his is an interdisciplinary research driven project with a boundary pushi
ng and genre bending agenda. It fosters hybrid forms of research and co-c
reation that challenge the boundaries of accustomed knowledge\, both in s
cience and art. \n\nShe will present the work "Unearthed" and offer insig
hts into the compositional process\, collaborative framework\, and the va
rious modes of musical translation involved. \n\nAbout Signe Moslund L
ykke \n\nSigne Lykke is a multiple award-winning Danish compos
er\, with a masters degree from Trinity Conservatoire of Music in London
and College of Fine Arts in Austin\, Texas as well as an advanced graduat
e diploma from the Royal Academy of Music in Århus.\nSigne Lykke has comp
osed music for a broad array of ensembles and soloists\, including large-
scale interdisciplinary works such as the opera Nordkraft\, the dance pie
ce Leaning Tree\, the interactive light installation Living Room by Rando
m International\, and an opera trilogy by the artist collective Motherboa
rd.\nUpcoming projects include a new violin concerto for the Danish Natio
nal Symphony Orchestra\, a new work for soprano Barbara Hannigan\, a site
-specific orchestral work for the Rued Langgaard Festival and a song cycl
e for aging voices and baroque orchestra. \n\n[i]This event is hosted and
