DESCRIPTION:As the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) marks its 60th ann
iversary\, we invite you to a special DIAS event with this year's SDU Hon
orary Doctors.\n\nSix distinguished scholars come together to reflect on
a question that feels more urgent than ever:\nWhat should a university
be in a changing world?\n\nAcross the globe\, universities are being
challenged\, and some politically attacked. Their purpose is debated\, t
heir value to society questioned. At the same time\, new technologies are
reshaping how we produce\, share\, and recognise knowledge – raising dee
per questions about what and how we teach\, how we collaborate\, and whos
e contributions are seen.\n\nInside academia\, the culture of research is
also evolving. Where most careers traditionally followed individual path
s\, they now unfold in more collaborative environments\, bringing new ene
rgy\, but also new uncertainties. What does mentorship look like when suc
cess is no longer about standing out alone\, but about navigating complex
ity together? How do we support early-career researchers\nin a system whe
re only some will stay\, and many will move beyond academia?\n\nThis conv
ersation brings these tensions into the open. The SDU Honorary Doctors wi
ll explore:\n
\n
The contested value of higher education and the u
niversity's role as a public institution\n
The ethics and changing natu
re of academic collaboration and mentorship\n
How technological and soc
ietal shifts are reshaping research and education\n
\n\nThe event i
s open to all: students\, staff\, alumni\, and anyone interested in the f
uture of knowledge.\n\nAs SDU turns 60\, join us in reflecting\, question
ing\, and imagining what the university can become\nnext.\n\nHonorary
Doctors of 2026\n\nHUM: Prof. Amanda Lagerkvist\, Uppsala Univ
ersitet\nNAT: Prof. Kimberly Ann Kline\, University of Geneva\nSAM
F: Prof. Scott Cummings\, UCLA School of Law\nSBS: Prof. Bernar
d Cova\, ESCE International Business School\nSUND: Prof. and Dean
Deanna L. Kroetz\, Ohio State University\nTEK: Dr.techn. Lorie Ham
elin\, University of Toulouse\n\nThe debate will be moderated by Ben
Davies\, DIAS Chair of Humanities\, and Samuel Cushman\, DIAS Chair of Sc
ience.
