 neither new nor irreversible. There have been great waves of globalizatio
 n in the past that have led to a backlash against international economic 
 integration. The lecture will describe several of these episodes and disc
 uss the parallels between the past\, the present\, and — perhaps — the fu
 ture. This lecture is a part of our program on the history of capitalism[
 nl] [nl] [b]About Kevin O'Rourke[/b] [nl] Kevin O’Rourke is Professor of 
 Economics at NYU Abu Dhabi. He was formerly the Chichele Professor of Eco
 nomic History at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of All Souls Colle
 ge. He is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy\, a Fellow of the British A
 cademy\, and a former Research Director of CEPR. He is currently a Senior
  Editor of Economic Policy\, and serves on the editorial boards of severa
 l other journals\; his previous professional roles include terms as Presi
 dent of the European Historical Economics Society\, Vice-President of the
  Economic History Association\, and Editor of the European Review of Econ
 omic History. After obtaining a PhD in Economics at Harvard he taught at 
 Columbia\, University College Dublin\, Harvard\, Sciences Po Paris and Tr
 inity College Dublin. His books include the prize-winning Globalization a
 nd History (co-authored with Jeffrey Williamson)\, and Power and Plenty: 
 Trade\, War and the World Economy in the Second Millennium (co-authored w
 ith Ronald Findlay). He was awarded an ERC Advanced Investigator in 2009 
 to study interwar trade and trade policy. His most recent book is Une His
 toire Brève du Brexit (Odile Jacob\, 2018)\, published in English as A Sh
 ort History of Brexit: From Brentry to Backstop (Penguin\, 2019). [nl] [n
