DESCRIPTION:DIAS onsdagsforelæsning i DIAS' seminarrum. Alle er velkomne.[
nl][nl]\nDonald E. Canfield er Chair i DIAS og professor i biologi. Han e
r desuden en af SDU's mest citerede forskere.[nl][nl]\n\nOm forelæsningen
:[nl]\nIt’s all about oxygen\nAs animals\, we have an absolute requiremen
t for oxygen. Indeed\, the history of life on Earth is likely intertwined
with the history of atmospheric oxygen levels. But\, how do we know abou
t this? In particular\, how do we know how oxygen levels have changed ove
r time and how do we know how oxygen has impacted the evolution of life?
In this talk\, I will take you through some of the methods that we use to
explore ancient oxygen levels and I will also describe how we explore th
 e oxygen limits for life.[nl][nl]\n\n\n\nAbout Donald E. Canfield: [nl]\n
M.Phil. and Ph.D. Donald E. Canfield is a Professor of ecology at the Dep
artment of Biology and Head of the Research Unit at the Nordic Center for
Earth Evolution (NordCEE) at SDU. Furthermore\, Professor Donald E. Canf
ield is the former director of NordCEE\, a center funded for 10 years by
the Danish National Research Foundation.\nHe is a member of the US Nation
al Academy of Sciences\, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters
\, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Science. He is a fellow of the Geoche
mical Society\, the American Geophysical Union\, the Society for Microbio
logy\, and the American Academy for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Pr
ofessor Donald E. Canfield has won the Vladimir Vernadsky Award from the
European Union of Geophysicists (EAG) and the Urey Prize from the Europea
n Association of Geochemistry (EAG)\, where he is also a member of the bo
ard. He was also awarded the title of Knight of the Order of the Dannebro
 g in 2021.[nl]\nProfessor Donald E. Canfield has been awarded a Docteur H
onoris Causa from the University of Poitiers\, and he is a member of the
editorial board of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (P
NAS). In addition to PNAS\, he is on the editorial boards of Geobiology a
nd the American Journal of Science. [nl]\nFinally\, Professor Donald E. C
anfield has been on an ERC panel for Advanced Grants in geological scienc
es\, where he also received funding from 2011-2016. In 2017 he was one of
only 11 top researchers who got the grant and the title VILLUM Investiga
tor\, a program that is characterized by grants for scientists rather tha
 n for specific research projects.
